Just when you thought your children were napping...

It was a peaceful afternoon. My beloved spouse and I were enjoying a quiet sit at the kitchen table, preparing the fare for teacher appreciation week. For all we knew, the children were comfortable in bed (Emily in hers and Zachary in ours) enjoying a mid-afternoon nap. I looked at my spouse and smiled, knowing that nothing could disturb this perfect moment. Little did I know that trouble was foaming in the next room...
I leaned back in my chair and sighed, releasing all the cares of the day, and surveyed the scene from right to left. Elisa sat there on my right, painting blocks for Mrs. Rasband (Emily's teacher) and my computer was directly in front of me. As my eyes panned to the left in to the living room, I spotted movement in my peripheral vision. My eyes completed the 180 degree arc quickly and I turned toward the living room, ready to yell at my 3-year-old son, whom I had placed in my bed about 15 minutes earlier, kissed goodnight, and laughed merrily at his "I love naps" comment. As I opened my mouth to tell him to get back to bed, I found the words were somehow stolen from me and taken into that abyss where all parents rebukes go when they are completely shocked and astounded. There in front of me stood Dr. Venkman from Ghostbusters, or so it appeared. As I picked my jaw up off the floor, it began to dawn on me that maybe, just maybe this actually was my son and he had just lathered himself up with some unknown white substance. Just then, the aroma of Gilette "Foamy" shaving cream smacked me like an insulted woman. In the reality that hit me, I struggled between utter rage and complete loss of composure in laughter. Elisa started saying something along the lines of "Zachary, go back to bed" and I knew that she had not yet lifted her eyes to see the scene that was unfolding. "Look at him!" I said. I could tell that she was experiencing the same struggle that I was for a moment, but she regained composure and began assuming that the substance might be something more sinister, like desitin (thank goodness it wasn't). Pandemonium ensued. Shouts of "What is it!?!" and "I don't know where he got it!" could probably be heard from my parents' house in Levan. After investigation, it was discovered that he had found my travel toiletry kit and had decided it would be a good idea to shave his legs (or at least lather them up with shaving cream), along with everything else, including his stuffed alligator, which I must admit, HAS been a bit stubbly lately. Anyway, he also thought it might be beneficial to his future hair-health to massage some of the foam into his scalp. And what better instrument to use than my travel toothbrush. It exfoliates and increases lather at the same time! Perfect! Well, that's it. Afternoon ruined. We did decide, however, to make him pose for the camera for the future enjoyment of all who love to ridicule foolish acts. Enjoy.

Teacher Appreciation Week

So let me just say, if you don't intend on ever helping with any room mother functions ever, DON'T Sign up at the beginning of the year!!! ok now with that out of my system, I will tell you about Teacher Appreciation Week. Last August I got to school registration, I thought that It would be cool to be a room mother and help in Emily’s class, so when I got there, all the holidays were taken, so being a new school mom and never having done this before I signed up to help with teacher appreciation, which I thought, “Ok, I can help with that in April how hard could it be?”. So now that we are in April, Teacher Appreciation Week is upon us. I get this call last week from the room mother that is in charge of the whole week for all the teachers, she asks me if I would head this up for Mrs. Rasband’s a.m. class and gives me two names and numbers for other mothers that have signed up. Well I called, and one was short and rude with me and told me she would call back, the other number was bad so I looked in the school directory, called that number and left a message. So here I was with a sick kid (oh did I mention late Sunday we were at Primary’s with Zachary? that a whole other story.) I can't even keep my eyes open and now I have to make a door decoration for Mrs.Rasband's door and worry about the whole week, think about appreciation gifts to thank her with, collecting money from each kid in the class to get those gifts, and the help that I was given is no help at all. Then on Thursday, 4 days later, when the door decoration is almost done because I went and got the paper and did it at home, the rude mother calls back finally and tells me what she has going on and that she can't possibly help. Yea I was IRKED!!! Well after a lot of talking to my lifeline Krystal, and neighbor Rena I took a breath and got everything situated for next week. Yesterday I took the door decoration to put it on the door. It turned out so good. Now I just have to get through next week. Here are the pictures of the door and one of the gifts I am giving Mrs. Rasband. I love to give cute gifts and make things special for her because she has been just the right teacher that Emily needs. I just wish other Parents cared as much as I do. So moral of the story, if you don’t intent to help, don’t sign up just to save face. Enjoy the pictures!
